Tapering
September 24, 2008 at 8:45 pm | Posted in Marathon training, Steamtown Marathon | 2 CommentsWell, I can’t believe it but I’m already in taper mode. Where did the weeks go?
For me, tapering is a challenge. I never feel like I’m doing enough running and I always feel like I’m eating too much food! However, I understand the wisdom behind the taper…let your body rest for the work it’s about to do.
My question is: How long should the taper be? Some argue two weeks, others three. What do you think?

I would say a definitive “it depends”. If you’ve taken some recovery weeks during your training, a shorter taper would probably work well for you. If not, a longer taper might be in order.
However, these guidelines may go out the window if you’ve tapered for this distance before. If you’ve done a similar training plan before and whatever taper was in that plan worked for you, I’d say use that.
Helpful, eh?

I do two weeks. A week is a long time in the running world (to me) and so I find two to be sufficient. But I’m not that fast, so maybe I’m wrong! hmmm…..
Have fun at Steamtown, I hear it’s amazing.
